The book launch invites you to share a moment flipping through pages together. There will be an open discussion following the presentation of the book. As part of the book launch program, Chih-Tung invites Jennifer Gardenia, a Chilean therapist and somatic coach, to host a workshop that communicates the publication theme through embodied practices. The workshop has two-parts and happens in between the talking and page-flipping. The workshop introduces both individual and interactive practices, and one can decide how they wish to situate themselves in the moment. Participation is non-obligatory and one can join and disengage anytime.
Studio Visits by Chih-Tung Lin follows the completion of Chih-Tung’s master thesis project at Uniarts Helsinki during which 19 distinctive studio visits with Finnish-based art workers were realised. Drawing the comics, Chih-Tung went about their thoughts on the curator’s role, the studio visit culture, conventions, power structure, and many other curator-artist related subjects.
As a result, Studio Visits by Chih-Tung Lin takes the shape of a two-coloured riso-printed, slightly smaller than A5 comic book. With its layout designed by Valentina Černiauskaitė and printed by Risofort Hamburg, the book of 116 pages includes a compilation of the comic strips documenting a beginning curator’s constant questioning on their role and their relationship with whom they work with. With this project Chih-Tung wants to share their firsthand observation and reflection on running the project but also all the wandering thoughts that the project inspires through their comical narratives. The book had its first appearance at Paper and Peers Art Book Fair in Bangkok, represented by Break Off Art Book Fair from Taichung, Taiwan. The book is heading to Fair Enough Art Book Fair in Tallinn, Estonia, on 18-19th of May.
The books will be available for purchase on site. Snacks and refreshment will be served.
Chih-Tung Lin (she/they) is a curator and artist based in Helsinki, Finland, originally from Taiwan. They are interested in interdisciplinary qualities and playfulness in their practice and aim to blur the boundaries between their roles as a curator and an artist. Their practice involves curating, illustration, performance art, and a blend of these mediums. They work with topics related to social relations, working conditions, roles, and the artist-curator relationship. Lin holds a MFA in Praxis Exhibition Studies Programme at University of the Arts Helsinki.
Jennifer Gardenia (she/her) is a Chilean therapist and somatic coach based in Helsinki. Her work is focused on facilitating therapeutic, trauma-informed embodiment resources to support nervous system care. Her approach intersects various praxis for awareness, intentional change, and collaboration from situated perspectives of caring, and it moves between the grounds of interpersonal neurobiology and ecology. She offers Sensorial Yoga, a practice designed for diverse body-minds, which is part of the Accessible Yoga and Somatic Platform (AYSP-Fin), and she provides psychosocial support at We-Embrace and in one-on-one private practice.
