PUBLICS YOUTH OPEN CALL 2026 

We are looking for ten young people (18-21 years old) to become a member of PUBLICS Youth Advisory Board 2026!

Are you interested in arts and culture? 

Do you want to explore how cultural institutions communicate with young people and help build a Youth Cultural Access Observatory that works to improve this communication and creates change?

PUBLICS Youth Advisory Board is a position for ten members, meeting monthly between April 2026 to February 2027. Together with local and international art workers, you will conduct site visits to cultural institutions; investigate how they speak with youth; present findings and recommendations directly to institutions; become analysts and co-designers of institutional communication, and help to change how art institutions address youth. This is a work and learning opportunity. The sessions are facilitated and you don’t need previous experience in the arts to apply. 

PUBLICS Youth collaborates with twenty other young adults based in Oslo and Stockholm as part of PRAKSIS and Index Teen Advisory Boards. This year, all three boards will gather in Oslo for a 3-day-youth-led symposium to share findings and present recommendations.

PUBLICS is a curatorial and contemporary art commissioning agency with a dedicated library, exhibition and event space in Helsinki, operating as an educational, civic and public resource dedicated to contemporary art and its multiple publics. 

WHAT TO EXPECT

• Monthly sessions held in English from April 2026 to February 2027.
• A year of conversations, workshops, trips, doing, thinking and sharing together about the role of art in society and how to change it. 
• A monthly honorary fee paid based on attendance.
• Hands on Learning and Professional development with institutional support. 
• Access to a local and international network of creative thinkers.
• Collaborating with fellow members, PUBLICS team, PRAKSIS and Index Teen Advisory Boards, local and international artists.
• Site visits to art spaces and cultural institutions in Helsinki and beyond.
• Co-organising a youth-led public programme.
  

HOW TO APPLY

Write a one-page text introducing yourself, why you would like to join the Youth Advisory Board, and how you are interested in cultural production, curating, communication and/or how cultural institutions speak with youth.
