__
On 22nd February our Library turns into an open Reading Room, framing two moments to reflect on voices in publishing.
At 3:30pm the Youth Board 2022 will thread together some of the topics and interests addressed in their podcast, looking back at their experience over the past year.
On occasion of the podcast launch, we will read an extract from the book How do we know? Institutional listening and young agency in the arts, produced by the Teen Advisory Boards of PRAKSIS (Oslo) and Index Foundation (Stockholm), who are in partnership with our Youth Board. The book will be available for purchase and read in our Library.
In the podcast, Anastasiia Lapteva, Manda Loipponen, Valeriia Masliukova-Malova, Erika Ryppieva, Róza Turunen, and Vanessa Uhlbäck recollect some of the conversations and activities that they have experienced as being part of the Board. In their words, playfulness and togetherness emerge as strategies to navigate the moment of passage from teenagehood to adulthood, and to reclaim self-definition as they experience a shift from education to professionalization. The Boards also reflect on the status of the Youth as a collective within the organization of PUBLICS; and on the experience of engaging with art while being in dialogue with others.
Episode 1. PUBLICS Youth 2022 In Conversation and episode 2. Harold Offeh on working with PUBLICS Youth are available from February 15th on our Vimeo and website.

At 5:30pm we warmly welcome curator and writer Sara Raza who will discuss and present her recently published book Punk Orientalism: The Art of Rebellion.
Inspired by British punk methodology, this experimental book is entirely culled from Raza’s curatorial practice. Taking up fractured and poetic forms the book includes art and artworks by 31 contemporary art practitioners from Central Asia and the Caucasus, the spaces and places associated with the former Soviet Union, and expands to reflect upon the USSR’s complex relationship with the Arab world, Iran and Turkey. Focussing on revolutionary artistic practices and artist-led movements this timely book provides a fresh take on global current events through the cutting, mixing and weaving of art and ideas.
Punk Orientalism: The Art of Rebellion, published by the Black Dog Press in 2022, will be available for purchase during the launch.
