Böhm will be coming back to PUBLICS to host a 3 day poster production workshop. Post, paste, tape, write, print, message, make, public, political, fun, fast, messy, clear. She is using the library and gallery for a public poster take over, to discuss the many reasons for making posters whilst making them. The gallery will be setup as an ad hoc poster and slogan production space, and the library will be used in parallel as a source, support system and critical soundboard. The theme of the workshop will be on the expressing of political messages and agendas with posters as medium. You are welcome to join either with or without a capital p of political.
Kathrin’s own poster work spans from using posters to claim and reclaim space to collectivised campaign making. Kathrin is a founding member of Keep it Complex – Make it Clear, which will also be the motto for Poster Take Over. Let’s keep urgent political and cultural topics complex, but let’s be clear as artists which politics we want and support. The Poster Take Over in Helsinki is also the start of connecting colleagues and organisations across Europe in expressing and uniting behind a clear anti-fascist position and a call for progressive and feminist action.
Kathrin Böhm is a London based artist whose collaborative work focuses on the collective production and use of public space, trade as a public realm and the everyday starting point for culture. She is also a founding member of the international artist group Myvillages that advocates for a new understanding of the rural as a place for cultural production.
The workshop is free for everyone and will be held (in English) from Tuesday 28th to Thursday 30th of May. Don’t hesitate to drop by anytime, as the workshop does not require any advance registration or oblige a full 3-day commitment.
