Future Futures Network Conference
9-11th October
Venue: PUBLICS
Future Futures Conference gathers PYAB, PTAB, and ITAB across borders to think, write, and un/learn together, continuing our collective work toward a shared publication.
Each day begins with a shared breakfast at PUBLICS, followed by internal workshops and visits with artists and practitioners whose work expands how we think about publishing, printed matter, collective ways of working, and alternative futures.
The first day begins with “Group Writing as Form of Exhibiting,” a workshop facilitated by Paul O’Neill, where writing will be explored as a collective and performative exercise. Together, we explore how written form changes with pronouns, and how tenses hold different weights, moods and temporalities.
We visit Trans Library, a community library and social space centering trans and queer voices, where lona Roisin speaks about queer archives, printed matter, and writing as a tool.
We visit the Library of Labour Movements, where Minna Henriksson introduces Counter Libraries (co-curated with SezginBoynik), an exhibition discussing the role of exile printing activities in the antifascist struggle.
The second day opens with Oraklets ark, a role-play script written by Sara Kaaman and tiny, reading by Michaela Yarmol-Matusiak and Tiny, inviting us to step into speculative worlds and explore the possibilities of collective storytelling.
At Kiasma, Saara Hacklin will reflect on youth agency and intergenerational engagement within the institution, and welcome us to the current exhibitions. We will visit Kalasataman Seripaja where Jan Konsin will show a selection of prints and speak about printmaking and artist-run infrastructures and the Longest Night exhibition at Paja gallery.
The final day begins with reflections on care, giving and receiving support while working together with Marit Silsand. This is followed by a Dada-inspired collage workshop where we rework materials gathered during the week. Later, our publication designer Tuukka Kaila introduces the idea of ‘book concept’ and shared examples that open the discussion on audience, intention and positioning of our upcoming publication coming out in 2026.
Future Futures is supported by Erasmus+ ungdom.
