PUBLICS is excited to share that as part of the Espoo Cine International Film Festival, PUBLICS Artistic Director Paul O’Neill is participating in a panel discussion at the Cinéstesia International Seminar on Film and Visuals Arts on Tuesday, 25th of August at 13:45-14:45 at EMMA – Espoo Museum of Modern Art.
The discussion titled Un/framing the Screen In-between Cinema and Visual Arts, moderated by Sini Mononen ( Academy of Finland Research Fellow, University of Helsinki, and Art Journalis), invites Krist Gruijthuijsen (Director and CEO of EMMA), Itha O’Neill (Head of Curation of Amos Rex), Saara Hacklin (Chief Curator, Collections of Kiasma) and Paul O’Neill (Artistic Director of Publics) to explore the following questions: How do artists’ moving image works navigate between the cinema venue and the museum’s white cube? What kinds of institutional decisions, curatorial strategies, and viewing conditions come into play?
The panel brings together representatives from leading art and culture institutions to reflect on the frameworks and curatorial approaches that shape how artists’ moving image circulates, and is being experienced by the visitors. Drawing on the distinct missions and profiles of their respective organisations, the panellists explore how different exhibition contexts can support practices that resist easy categorisation, while envisioning a more porous and collaborative ecosystem between cinema and the visual arts.
Cinéstesia, Espoo Ciné’s new initiative, builds bridges between cinema and visual art as part of Espoo Ciné with the Saastamoinen Foundation as its main partner.
