You are kindly invited to the annual meeting of Curators Union Finland – SKY on 2 May 2019 at 6–8pm. Last autumn the current board took over SKY in order to keep it going and to rethink its function and ways of organising. They have been meeting amongst the board and held two open meetings, one in December 2018 and one in January 2019, to discuss the needs people have and share, resources for coming together, and creating an active union for curators and other exhibition makers working in Finland.
Here are some thoughts based on people’s wishes for what the union could do:
– Act as a “watchdog” for the Finnish art field, creating & taking part in public discussions about situations where curators and other art workers are not treated correctly
– Collaborate with different unions to create common discussion about how the working conditions in the art field could be made more fair
– Organise events of sharing, for example studio visits, project reviews, peer groups and exhibition visits
– Offer guidance to freelance curators and organisations working with freelance curators about contracts, fees and other working conditions
Curators Union Finland hopes that this annual meeting will bring the union active members, old and new, to take these issues forward together. Please find the meeting agenda and the rules of the association in the Facebook event.
