Helsinki based curatorial agency PUBLICS is recruiting a new Program Manager who will be responsible for the fundraising, planning and executing of all aspects of PUBLICS’ program together with the Artistic Director.
PUBLICS develops out of Checkpoint Helsinki established in 2013. In its spirit, PUBLICS continues this organization’s commitment to critical social thinking, contemporary art and publicness. Our main goals are to promote and support new collaborative models and positions within the art world, to bring together diverse publics and communities to increase intersectional participation, and to advance local and international networks to diversify local cultural fields. Current board members are Adelaide Bannerman, Taru Elfving, Bassam El Baroni (vice chair), Pilvi Kalhama (chair), Kati Laakso, João Laia, Axel Straschnoy, and Pilvi Takala.
Program Manager has the overall responsibility to coordinate PUBLICS’ core organisational activities and to be in charge of its administration. This role requires experience in managing the finances such as budgeting, accounting, and reporting. Program Manager is responsible for planning and implementing the organization’s daily activities and looks after the part-time staff and project-based team members. Fostering networks, partnerships, collaborators, and guests is an important part of the job. Understanding of contemporary art, its ecosystem and different publics are essential. PUBLICS is a small and flexible organisation currently with two full-time employees, Artistic Director and Program Manager, which means collaborative working methods, flexibility, and strong communication skills are both needed and appreciated.
The successful candidate will have:
– Strong administrative and financial skills
– An understanding of the funding structures of arts and cultural organisations
– Strong experience of hands-on project management, including coordination, arranging practicalities, PR and communication skills
– Ability to coordinate and execute work both independently and as part of a small team
– Excellent written and verbal English
– A suitable degree and previous work experience in a similar position
Program Manager’s role is full-time and for a fixed-term for 3 years, and begins latest in January 2023, or as otherwise agreed.
